Myopia Control with Essilor® Stellest® Lenses

At our optometric clinics, we’re proud to offer Essilor® Stellest® lenses, the first and only spectacle lens with FDA market authorization proven to slow the progression of myopia in children. These innovative lenses use Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target (H.A.L.T.) technology to help manage myopia while giving kids the clear, comfortable vision they need to thrive in school, sports, and everyday life.

With Stellest®, families now have a non-invasive, glasses-based solution that supports long-term eye health. In clinical studies, children wearing Stellest® lenses experienced an average 67% reduction in myopia progression compared to those wearing standard single-vision lenses.

What Is Myopia?

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is one of the most common vision conditions in children, and it’s becoming more widespread globally. Children with myopia can see clearly up close but have difficulty seeing objects at a distance. This may show up as squinting at the board, holding devices too close, or avoiding sports and outdoor play.

More significantly, untreated myopia can worsen over time, increasing the risk of serious eye health issues such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration later in life. That’s why early intervention matters.

How Essilor® Stellest® Lenses Work

Essilor® Stellest® lenses are a specialized type of myopia management spectacle lens designed not only to correct nearsighted vision but also to help slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Their mechanism is based on how light is focused on — and in front of — the retina to signal the eye to slow its growth.

Is Stellest® Right for My Child?

Stellest® lenses are for children and young teens with progressing myopia. If your child’s prescription increases at each visit, it may be a sign they could benefit from a myopia management approach like Stellest®. Kids already wearing glasses are often great candidates.

We’ll assess your child’s vision, eye health, visual habits, and lifestyle to create a personalized care plan. Myopia management isn’t one-size-fits-all, and our team is here to guide your family every step of the way.

Essilor® Stellest® Lenses Frequently Asked Questions

Are Stellest® lenses safe for children to wear daily?

Yes. Stellest® lenses are worn just like regular glasses and are made from the same safe, durable materials. Kids wear them during the day and take them off at night. They do not need to make any changes to their routine.

How do Stellest® lenses slow myopia progression?

Stellest® lenses use H.A.L.T. technology to send a signal to the retina that helps guide how the eye grows. This signal slows axial elongation, the stretching of the eye that worsens nearsightedness.

Do Stellest® lenses replace the need for contacts or ortho-k?

Not necessarily. Stellest® is one of several effective myopia control options. For families looking for a glasses-based solution, it’s an excellent choice. During your visit, we’ll review all available methods, including contact lenses and orthokeratology, to find what works best for your child.

Can these lenses improve my child’s vision?

Yes. Stellest® lenses correct nearsightedness, so your child will see clearly while wearing them, just like with standard glasses. What sets them apart is that they also help slow down prescription changes over time, supporting long-term eye health.

When should we start myopia management?

The sooner, the better. Myopia often progresses most rapidly during childhood and early adolescence. Early action helps us protect your child’s vision and reduce the risk of future complications.
