Dr. Aaron M. Sako joined the La Paz Optometric group in 2001. A California native, he was born in Santa Monica, grew up in Cerritos and attended the University of California Irvine. He graduated with a B.S. in biological sciences in 1995. Dr. Sako earned his doctorate of optometry at Nova Southeastern University, Health Professions Division in South Florida, where he graduated with honors in 2000. His current areas of focus are primary care, surgical consultation, surgical co-management and specialty contact lenses.
Dr. Sako is glaucoma certified and is licensed in the use of therapeutic and diagnostic pharmaceutical agents. He has extensive clinical experience and training from the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, Aker Kasten Cataract and Laser Eye Institute in Boca Raton, Florida and currently at the La Paz Optometric Center in Laguna Hills, California. He is an affiliate member of a prominent Orange County laser center. His patients benefit from his unique understanding of LASIK, having undergone the procedure himself, as well as co-managing thousands of cases of different refractive procedures. Dr. Sako is also certified in Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT). This is a non-surgical option to correcting nearsightedness with specially designed contact lenses during sleep.
Dr. Sako is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, the Orange County Optometric Association and the Asian American Optometric Society. He has served and currently serves on the executive board for this group since 2004. He is a member of the prestigious Advisory Board to NVision Laser Eye Centers in Newport Beach, California.
Community service and striving for excellence are very important to Dr. Sako. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in the organization. He is currently an active member of the Mission Viejo Rotary Club. He provides charitable annual eye care through this organization to children in Baja, Mexico. Dr. Sako is also a member of the Orange County Optimist Club. Dr. Sako resides in Ladera Ranch with his wife Mako and their three children Skylar, Payton, and son Colby. He enjoys exercising, skiing, playing golf and spending time with friends and family. As of late he enjoys playing the Tahitian drums and strumming his ukulele.
